Meet Vi and Dell McConnell
We have called the Alberni Valley home since 1975, when a management transfer moved Dell from the mainland to the Port Alberni Woodward's Store. Coming from the hussle and bustle of the big city, we were thrilled with the slower pace, natural beauty, and alternative lifestyle we found in our new surroundings. And with the unparalleled level of services for a small city of this size, we haven't looked back since!
Our mutual attraction to the natural splendour of the area: the mountains, the sea and Barkley Sound, was a major factor in our decision to remain in Port Alberni. The rustic natural beauty of the landscape challenged and inspired Vi's oil painting. Encouraged and tutored by the late Master Painter, Bill Alexander, Vi completed the
Wet on Wet instructors course to teach the technique he developed.
Volunteering and community involvement has always been key to both of us. We joined the Canadian Power Squadron in 1977 and have been active members of the local unit of the Canadian Coast Guard Auxiliary since 1983, doing search and resue on a volunteer basis in our very seaworthy vessel. We are also directors for the local chapter of
First Open Heart Society and Sunshine Club members and volunteers. Further Vi is also an active member of the Womens Business Network.
